NHTSA
is a government organization under the U.S. Department
of Transportation. These are the people who make and enforce
safety standards for motor vehicles. Accordingly, they
do safety investigation like the IIHS (see below), but
they do more than just crash tests: they also investigate
and enforce rules about defects, fuel economy, drunk driving,
odometer fraud, and of course child seats and airbags.
They are also committed to making good information about
all aspects of motor vehicle safety available to the public.
They even have a toll-free Auto Safety Hotline. If you
have any questions about child seat safety or any other
aspect of car safety, this is a great place to start your
search. |

The
IIHS-HLDI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to research

auto accidents. Their site has lots of relevant safety
information (a lot of crash tests and the like) on the
most popular cars, trucks, and SUVs, as well as some helpful
tips about car seat safety. |
